I remember my Dad getting a Northumbria back in the ‘70’s.

It was the most expensive item of clothing on the planet at the time (this was before fashion was invented).

We must have had a good year!

Bloody good coat, he had it for a few decades.

I think the simple truth is better stuff has come along since.

I got through 3X Northumbria  coats back in the day , eventually the ground became more accessible after thinnings and bramble removal . I agree things have moved on in the keep you warm and dry department  but , if I ever had to fight my way through head high bramble again  it would have to be a Northumbria .

I've got one that must be older than @Stubby, it does a job, but it stinks of damp all the time.

My wife's friend bought one and didn't like the smell so she put it through a hot wash cycle. It was an unwaxed jacket after that.

I've got a knock off similar to the ebay one linked. For the money it's a really good coat. Wife has an actual Barbour, and sure, it's a bit nicer. But it's not 10x nicer, and it cost 10x as much!

I went into Scatts a few (10) years ago with £400 to spend on a Barbour. I was the first customer of the day and the lady serving gently whispered that the scatts own brand wax coats were almost exactly the same coat and a quarter of the price. Took her advice and the coat remains excellent to this day.
