Imo there has never been a better time to be alive. I'm fairly sure if you look back through history life will have been harder, shorter and definitely more miserable than it is now. If we are destroying the planet then that is nature's way, just like it was 65 million years ago when a meteorite did more damage than we could ever do, that could happen again in the next few days and none of us would be the wiser. 

 

Worry less about the future and more about now as that's all 'we' have. Let's face it, human life has improved and extended year on year from the dawn of man.

I agree with you when you say us "destroying the planet is nature's way" I believe nature evolved us to do precisely what we do - she doesn't make mistakes. Our job as a species is to burn the carboniferous deposits and put the CO2 back into the atmosphere to restock it back to Jurassic levels, where nature wants it to be. CO2 is crucial to life on earth, the more there is, the more biomass there is.

I am well aware that I am fortunate but would like that trend to continue and think this requires a sea change in the way we live.

 

Comparing man made destruction to a meteorite just seems bizarre to me. One we can do something about the other is out of our hands. 

 

It is depressing and I am depressed about it. Most people seem to take your view ie live today and fook tomorrow, pretty shitty for those we hand things too though dont you think?

Your absolutely right that there probably has never been a better time for us to live. But I’d also argue that that has come at a cost to the earth. 

Sure, most of us live a pretty nice lives, have nice things but it all originates from the earths resources in one way or another- not much of that is inexhaustible.

 

IMO, the sort of havoc the planet wreaks on us in the form of Diseases, volcanoes, natural Flood/fire etc is simply nature doing what it does best and keeping things in balance- Humans have rightly or wrongly developed the ability to try and tip the balance in our favour in the pursuit of comfort and self preservation hence the nice lives we live now. I think there will be a price to pay in the future.

Errr, no,no,no,no,no. I didn't say and my view doesn't reflect live today and fook tomorrow at all. 

 

It seems as though you are in the life is shite and it's all man's wrong doing type of category. 

It's nothing more than a natural process, we couldn't be where we are with using natural resources to the extent we have. Plus there is an improvement going on, we are trying to use non fossil fuel, cutting down on plastic waste, cutting down on carbon emmisions etc, etc.

 

The way I see it I can't complain about destroying the planet while I'm sitting here using electricity on a plastic, glass and rare earth metal phone talking to someone who could be on the other side of the planet while booking an international holiday.

Hmm, your time-scales are a bit awash there Mh; think of a piano keyboard - oh lord why can't we - whole geological eras pass within the space of a single key, individual species last but the width of a hair. The sun will expand to its red giant phase... on another piano keyboard... over in New York!

Oomans as we know them will be long gone regardless of bigger brains and opposable fifth digits and regardless also of anything they do or don't do to the planet. They may die out they may evolve into something else. Maybe all mammals will be gone by then.
