I don't think it necessarily works like that.  maybe for a time.  But cheap trousers will deteriorate pretty quickly once they get a few holes in them, whereas a trouser with a better quality rip stop fabric will keep going on and on

Maybe. I suspect my huskys are better than you think though. In any event, god bless my mending department. She’s visiting next weekend as it happens but it’s mainly shirts I’ve got lined up for her his time.
