Mulching hedge trimmings

Hi there, does anybody use a mulching mower for hedge trimmings?

I saw a video last night and a guy runs a mulcher over the trimmings and then blows the pile into the hedge. Cleans up a treat.

Not thought of this before. i know nothing about mulching whats a good machine to start. 

 

i only do a few jobs weekends etc.

I have used a regular mower in the past for fine clippings, and yes it does work a treat.

 

I've been quite impressed with the Stihl(previously viking) mowers and plan to purchase one when I move house.

I do this with my own hedge; I have a brilliant little Hayterette (£36 on ebay!) that chews up the trimmings a treat.  Then,  as you say, I just rake and blow them under the hedge.

I don't see that a mulching mower is needed; any one will do the job well enough.  The biggest barrier to success will be the wheels pressing the trimmings into the ground where they're missed by the blades.

Have cut hedges on to long grass along base of hedge then chopped it all with shredding blade on brush cutter. No different then tractor with flail leave behind.

I have a honda ezy 16 inch push but ive never tried it. I was thinking of a machine that would tackle conifer hedge as its a pain to put through the chipper

Its how I do our own garden hedge. Dont even bother blowing the bits into the hedge. They are slightly visible after one mowing and gone by the next. Got an old Stiga Multicut Pro mower and it blitzes them with ease. It's only a small hornbeam hedge at a bit over a meter so would be one helava lot more clippings to mulch if you had a 4m hedge.

Do a lot like this, regular mower works well but hayterette or scag flail is best ?
