DF - 660lbf on the janka hardness scale

 

Therefore we can deduce that douglas is 43% as hard as yew.  

 

And from a durability point of view, there isn't anything that is widely grown in the UK that is more durable than yew heartwood.

Yes you are correct,My mistake and both great woods to work with.

Worth mentioning that hardness and durability do not go hand in hand. A hornbeam post wouldn't last 5 mins in wet ground where as a cedar post would have a good long life.
