I n order to clear this up, is it possible to get a cert of conformity for lets say a harness made in the US, upon its importation, or is this not at all possible now? The way I'm reading Bobs post, no CE approval means no way can these be imported, used by anyone in Europe.

On the spliced eyes, who is deemed as the competent splicer, is there a Certificate of competence that says Joe Bloggs has attained a standard in splicing, and who assesses the splicer's abilities? Are Loler inspectors also competent splicers, if not how do they know if a splice meets requirements?

but the cert of conformity from america would not be able to say conforms to european legislation or would it

as i understand splicing

no quals available but moves are been made to do testing and competency proven

loler inspectors have no need to be able to splice but a lot have an understanding and it,s all in the wording

ie splice apears to ......ect

problem with loler is it,s a minefield and some are not current and do not have enough indepth knowledge of kit and uses and rope construction and configuration ect ect

Thanks Bob, when I do my update, if I ever do, I will not be using my previous training provider.

might be that things have changed

some things deffinatly had for me

would still be interested if others are agreeing with me or not

p.s rigging kit does not need CE and splice to your hearts content:thumbup:

but be carefull as if they fail more than a log would hit the frying pan:thumbdown:

So thats it, we arent supposed to use a chainsaw without a certificate of competence, yet we trust a rope thats spliced by someone with no certificate of competence in splicing. Without a chainsaw ticket, and relevant training, you are more likely to be the person who gets injured by your actions, but a splicer is responsible for maybe many peoples lives by his actions. Seems ridiculous to me that this situation can even be possible in this litigious day and age.
