Contemporary Issues in the Arboriculture Industry

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm having to give a presentation on current contemporary issues within the arboriculture world at present. I have a few ideas but thought I'd ask on arb - talk if anybody had any specific thoughts or suggestions of relevant issues affecting the industry? These could range from anything from pests and diseases to how the industry is regulated on a whole. Its a 20 minute presentation with a Q&A session at the end. Any thoughts ideas and suggestions would be much appreciated.

Regards

You could start by grabbing the audiences attention by spending the first two minutes goin on about the dangers in the industry..  perhaps a few pics of chainsaw injuries..

Once you've got their attention you can talk about anything else you fancy, throw a few jokes in as well..   comedy relief after being shocked by the stories of woe in the industry :thumbup1:

Start with global deforestation, chuck in a little global warming, add how few people one tree supplies with oxygen, then focus on how  low bid is not always the best value long term

The modern “no reduction reduction”

The “one size fits all” attitude to tree work no matter the species.

Idle yoof or grumpy old gits - which is the biggest burden in the Arb workplace....

That’d be a funny one!

What is the purpose and audience of the presentation?  That is essential detail in knowing what to suggest that might be useful....

How to run a tree business

I've worked for many firms over the years.  In the early years some of them I thought were charging extortionate rates, now I realise their rates were quite realistic.  They are running good viable businesses and living comfortable lives whilst the rest are out there running round like brainless idiots for pennies.  Theres not enough education into running a tree business, its pretty much 100% focused on the practical side which is why we have the situation we have, an underpaid industry fighting over scraps
