Never asked for a deposit, get offered them sometimes but never take it up. Seems unusual to me. How much are they being asked for.?

30% for a 3 day job so I imagine it’s a few hundred quid?

Seems strange to me. Unless there is a back story to it I wouldn't be paying that in advance. Must be in the region of 500 quid!

They don't need the deposit to get some skips do they?xD

Tell them to get another firm to do the job and move on.

Like many others have had quite a few oldies try to pay up front but never take any money until the work is completed. That way you can blag them into paying more as the job was bigger than expected:thumbup:

No, no story to it was just the quote he received by email. Told him to ring a couple of others

I’m not saying he’s a rogue or anything, if it works for him, great.

I imagine if there’s crane hire, subbies booked, road closures etc. then something to ensure the client doesn’t cancel on a whim, or as has been said, interim payments, might be a good idea.

Wouldn’t, as a general rule, ask/require a deposit.

But I HAVE previously been let down by wasters that suck up too much of my time and effort visiting, considering, presenting options and quoting only to get the “my nephew is going to have a go at the weekend” the day before job start date.

The merest hint of this potential now would  result in a liberal helping of T tax and an upfront non-refundable pre-payment.

Its very rare, but wouldn’t hesitate.
