Teufelberger Fly

Hey People,

 

Does anyone know if the Red Teufelberger Fly rope can be spliced?

 

Not sure of the construction of it, but it’s different to any line I’ve used before.

Yes it can but it’s a different type of splice.  Instructions should be on teufekbeeger site or new englands

alternativeky they recently started using a slaice instead

i took my fly into the local chandlers years ago, needed the whipping redoing.  I explained to the guy in the shop it was a unique splice that his guys probably wouldn’t be familiar with, which he scoffed at boasting his guys know every splice.  5 minutes later there were 3 of them gathered round poking and prodding at this new splice they’d never come across before ?

look up the New England "heavy duty kernmantle splice"directions. its an easy splice as long as you keep the strands parallel. if they cross over, its gets hard very quickly.

I've only done one and that was only to see if I could do it. Its an ugly old thing for sure

Seems like Marlow's Vega splice could be used on this rope, to give a nicer appearing splice.

Fly can be spliced in different ways. The problem is getting the splices to pass the dynamic load testing requirements for the European standard due to its loose braid it has a tendency to slip under dynamic loading even with a high static breaking strain. It’s very important to do dynamic tests on arborist splices.
