i took my fly into the local chandlers years ago, needed the whipping redoing.  I explained to the guy in the shop it was a unique splice that his guys probably wouldn’t be familiar with, which he scoffed at boasting his guys know every splice.  5 minutes later there were 3 of them gathered round poking and prodding at this new splice they’d never come across before ?

Fly can be spliced in different ways. The problem is getting the splices to pass the dynamic load testing requirements for the European standard due to its loose braid it has a tendency to slip under dynamic loading even with a high static breaking strain. It’s very important to do dynamic tests on arborist splices. 

 

Instructions for the splice pictured will be available soon from Teufelberger. Static breaking strength 21kn/5minutes

Dynamic breaking strength 6kn/x5
