St8 feed roller gap

What would be causing this gap in the rollers ? I’ve had a play with the springs but doesn’t seem to change anything.

Also, what’s the easiest way to sharpen the feed roller knives, again never done it before and wanting to know if it’s not worth the hassle for someone that doesn’t have a clue haha

Try putting a big ugly lump through that sometimes clears it . It is most likely brash crap under the spigot in the U shaped cradle . If a big lump does not sort it put another big lump through and hit the stop bar before it all the way in . Turn off m/c and with the rollers held open you will be able poke the crud out with a screw driver or similar .

Yeah I’ve tried with a big lump but not having it, will give your other option a go, cheers!

Open the hood, remove the springs and open the rolers with the lift bar and wedge open with a suitable piece of timber, if you look at the back if the roller frame there is some groves that frequently get filled with crud and stop it closing fully, not always the easiest to clean out but will sort your problems.

Okay mate sweet the blades will be getting changed next week so I’ll have a fiddle then

Could probably get looked at a bit more often.

Letting stuff build up like that is often a hazard,but you know what to look for and how to clear it now.

That one is an old machine. They have changed the design so the plate has a bigger gap between it and the spring etc so less build up. When doing a lot of green material we can be cleaning it out every few days
