Buy one from Nod.

Having said that, I dont use a fid at all for double braid, toss wand all the way.

I use my Toss just for 16 strand and just for the first stage of the bury.

to be honest chaps, get your splicing stuff from nod. best place around! theres now a dedicated section on Tree Climbing Equipment Online Shop - Treeworker.co.uk - Home

a toss wand is the best way, rather than a shed-load of fids, its one-size-fits-all.

the piano-wire fid is fantastic, and is specialy made and designed by nod (legend!) its the only place youl get one.

Blimey! i should be on commission for this!

Whoever comes up with a method for marking black ropes will be my personal hero!

Ive seen metal merchants using a white marker on steel, dunno if it will be any good for rope or what even type of marker it is.

All in all a fairly useless post by me then.:laugh1:

With black ropes I have used a stitch of twine as a marker, you can take it out as you do the splice but the cover taper I just count and pull the strands as I go.

Yes, it is a nightmare.

Would tipp-ex be any good?

It's a solvent based product, I think that may not be a good idea although the amounts would be tiny.

I did wonder that, but like you say the amounts you use would be very small.
