Worth the change?

Hi there I'm totally new to the industry.  I was planning on doing the 4 week course at Kingswood in next couple of months.

How stable is work at the moment? And is full time year round employment hard to come by?

Im currently working in a warehouse that pays well for the sort of work it is. Around 28k. But don't fancy doing it for the next 40 years.

Stay at it, you won’t get that in this industry, to be good you will need 3 to 5 years on the tools and it’s hard work, doing a 4 week course won’t cover much and won’t make you any where near fast enough, if money isn’t the driving force and your willing to take a big pay cut and want enjoyment then go for it.

Groundie and climb at the weekends until you get good enough to earn decent money. 5 years in you will easily earn 30k plus or have the balls to go it on your own and earn treble that.

On the plus side there is always gonna be a need for people to cut trees!
The Warehouse workforce will be robots in the not to distant future.

Is that really a reality though- how many employed climbers are on £30k plus and more to the point how many tree businesses on here (or any where) are able to pay themselves £90k- very few I’d guess.
