Needles on a work site??

Working around the London area has it’s downfalls of drug abuse, would you refuse to work in this?

We cleared a site last year, they had a specialist crew in first to do a search, but they missed loads, I supplied the guys with sharps gloves and a litter picker so they could be put in a bucket without handling..

We report it as Near Miss then a report goes to agencies , in case its a known User area , if its LA then sometimes they patrol it more K

I'd flat out refuse. It's only a job and you only have 1 life.

It’s a sad sign of the times we live in and it’s getting worse.

Once you have identified where the needles are then there isn’t much chance of getting stuck by one. It’s the ones that you don’t see that can get you. As a reassurance, most diseases only live a matter of minutes outside the body so the chances of picking up the infection aren’t as great as you may think.
Still pays to be careful though.

HIV is very short-lived outside the body but not so hepatitis - not at all.  It will persist for months in completely dry blood.

when i was in the uk we ended up having to have a sharps kits and box in the van on council jobs.  Was much less of a problem  in areas where they had free needle exchanges
