Hi,

Just wondered how the whole o license works and restricted license works?, whats best for our industry looking to collect timber for processing, will be delivering the processed wood with a smaller vehicle.

If your just moving timber or other products for yourself, you would just need a restricted operators licence, moving timber for some one else, you would need a standard national o licence.

It realy depends on yr wood job Shaun, Agri haulage is often better within 20-30 miles economics wise. But it has a lot of restrictions. Cost of good tractor and trailer to move a 100 ton of wood about is much less than HGV driver n road rig. A farmer may step up fr such work in winter too, when the land work is quiet. K

Vosa, or whoever they are called now, are clamping down on this sort of thing. Gone are the days when you could buy a tractor and trailer and start hauking diggers ,timber etc, even if its for your own work. It requires correct licencing, and you cannot use red diesel

Its a fraught area DDD , depending on the wood that is being handled , we used a 16" heizohack and Valtra to process fuel wood and hauled the chip in silage trailers . With a forwarder trailer fr the quality log . I think yr refering to the guys with the old Fastrack JCBs ( 60 mph brigade ) hauling stuff ( using Red diesel - the cheek ! ) that the Artic lot should have had their hands on ;) K
