Im a novice too, even after having my gear for years, as still on hedges and mowing too. Today I thought Id pull my line out when it got dark and leave a throwline in the tree till tomorrow, fork too tight so now throwline and rope stuck. But i did practise tip tying large spindly tops, works a treat if there is a nearby stem to crane them out from. Probably chucking it down tomorrow. At least youre not reducing beech in the rain

How the f .... can you wrongly feed a zig zag, there is a diagram on the side, you got it upside down?

Any new kit start low and slow until you get used to it.

Just as well you didn't get a spiderjack you would have had brown stains by now
