Ah that will be the Isuzu then, lets them build another engine at no cost to the enviroment

You heard of some blowing up Stubby? It was my fear but got rid before it could happen to mine.

Exhaust gas recirculation exists to reduce the NOx emissions from the engine by controlling the combustion temperatures under certain high load conditions. The inert nature of the exhaust gas has a cooling effect on the combustion process. I think.

 

Even in normal operation, its presence can result in increased fouling of the intake manifold, eventually leading to loss of power. If the valves sticks open this process will happen much faster. In any case, it can result in poor starting and reduced performance from the moment it sticks open. If fitting a blanking plate results in an observable increase in performance, this is a good indicator that the EGR valve had failed.

I blanked mine off before it failed as I thought it was a pants idea . I followed a Modeo along the A27 a while back and there was a belch of smoke every 100yards or so . This continued for several miles untill I turned off . I coud only assume it was a faulty EGR valve opening and closing as he went along ?

Either that or the driver was 'vaping'!

2002 MK6 Transit 2.4 Durotorq,  I removed the inlet manifold (quite an involving task) and spent a lot of time de-coking / de-greasing and cleaning it out,  inspected it internally with a bore scope afore refitting the same and twas mint inside.  Also cleaned and blanked the EGR valve at the same time. Removed the intercooler and it's associated hoses and degreased the same while i was at it.

Recently we carefully cut open the 'CAT' and gutted it and welded it back together so it looks stock,  this makes the exhaust note 'whistle a bit' but it does improve 'drivability' somewhat.

 

2000 Isuzu pickup,  i simply blanked both EGR valves,  this improved drivability too.

 

Glad none of our vehicles have DPF's fitted.
