the media sell newspapers...any juicy, negativity about things like new ships and aircraft is jumped on with relish

The bigger story might be the manpower crisis attempting to put a crew on the ship...  "Golden £return" bonuses being offered to former Naval personnel that have previously retired / resigned / wrapped their hand in, offers of 2 year short contracts to Maritime Reserve personnel to try and surge some bodies in shortage categories, financial retention incentives to keep current manpower levels from dropping any further...

Unlike the Civil Service, NHS, Police, teachers, Fire services etc, there's no moaning from the 3 arms of the military, no striking, no political grand-standing at annual conferences, they just pack a bag and leave - game over.  I've seen several old muckers post copies of the letters they've received asking them to go back in the job on Facebook....  Don't know of any that have taken the option yet.

200 litres per hour is less than the flow of a bath tap and its only a real problem when it comes in faster than it can be pumped out. The stern seal of my last boat (submarine) used to leak a bit, but went tight once deeper than 100 metres and this is only in the news because the ship is brand new, but as some one rightly said: thats what sea trials are for.
