Not getting on with hitchclimber.

The thing that’s annoying me at the mo is hitch (swabish) binding up and to me, this seems to be caused when tending slack and the hitch being pulled into the hitch climber itself.
I wonder if the ‘legs’ of a VT stops or at least reduces the effects of this as the wraps don’t get that close to the HC.
Any thoughts?

Have you tried a knut hitch?

Its the one hitch that bites under load, didnt bind up,doesnt need tending and advances well with a pulley.

Give it a go

Practice at home in front of the telly. Make up a rhyme or system to remember how to tie it. Take a photo of it on your phone and keep in close by when setting up. I find if you take off your hitch cord every time you climb it forces you to make an effort to remember! Also means you are checking the cordage regularly!

if you can, try climbing on other peoples set ups. I climbed Hitchclimber with a Knut, I tried 3 different cords until I found the perfect one for me, which self-tended. I have a old left-wrist break from a parachute accident and had to give up the hitchclimber as it was causing a lot of swelling and discomfort in my joint, which i had to strap up and put on ice every day.

I went over to a lock jack and rope guide and the problem was sorted right away. Now I climb on a zigzag as I find it more ergonomic moving within the crown, ascent/descent being the same as a LJ.

Luckily for me, I had the chance to test climb all this kit before I threw money at it - dont reinvent the wheel...:)
