interesting thread - as i was only thinking yesterday that there was a great need to update the waterproofs - there is a good army surplus guy that has a stall on my local market and thought i would have a look at his stock this week - having been in wrac - at least i know the look and feel :thumbup1:

Army gortex is the way to go . I got jacket and legs for 30 quid and have never looked back its dry all the way home . I was working out all day in that rain on Sat I had the legs over my chiansaw trousers . my chainsaw trousers styed compleatly dry other then I usual heat/water on the inside from working hard . The top I dont mind getting soaked as find I sturggle to keep the jacket on as I just get so hot when working .

for internal moisture (the big sweat :blushing:) i use that tight fitting stuff that cyclists and joggers wear - it's wonderful stuff - it stops the big sweat from staying on the skin somehow - so i don't get sweat wet - which helps in this weather - and it acts like a thermal layer too

i got mine from an outdoors/camping shop - not oswald baileys (are they still giong :blushing:) but something similar

I used to use ex-Army issue goretex, I recently picked up some Royal Navy stuff which is much better (better zips, pockets etc). The other big advantange is that its not DPM but blue - a bit more visible. I paid £28 for jacket and £15 for the trousers, I've been dry as a bone the last few weeks...I call that money well spent!
