timber for sale in Wetherby / West Yorks area.

Hi All

I've stumbled accross this site after another long internet search, I am looking to buy a couple of tons worth of hardwood which i'm happy to collect and cut to size (over several trips) so that I can cut and break it myself - I must be unique in this request but I find it enjoyable and reminds me of my childhood winters to do this myself. Problem is i now live 150 miles from 'home' and therefore cant justify the cost of fuel to do a circa 300 mile round trip just to collect some wood.

 

I have just moved down to the Wetherby (West Yorks) area and cant find anyone who will sell me anything other than massively over priced bags which will last all of a couple of hours on a decent fire.

 

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

What do you call a massively over priced bag Rob...?

 

On average you will pay 30 to 50 quid for a bulk builders bag round that end.

You need to approach local tree surgeons really and ask them if they can drop some wood off for you when you see them about. When you say their overpriced, what you actually mean is that they're already processed. If you look at the cost of picking it up, and the time taken to process is you'll find your hourly rate to be quite poor. Not to mention the fact you've gota store if for a year to season it.

whereabouts in the wetherby area are you? there's loads of lads round here who sell logs get the old yellow pages out. you could try The Tree Doctor (jon Lad on here) or mick rhodes at bramham.

try mick Rhodes at Brahman or frank mhan (not shore of the spelling) at Boston but i think he gets his timber off the tree doctor

Location: I am renting a cottage in Linton at the mo.

 

£30 - £50 for pre cut bag sounds OK - looks like i need to face up to the prospect of just buying it pre cut and put the chainsaw and axe away really ;-(

hi rob mick rhodes is in his yard on saturday mornings for logs either deliverd or collect yourself. i think thay are about £50 per pickup load (about 1m3) i dont know if there is a delivery charge on top
