There is no way I’m totally abstaining till the doctor tells me to.

I love a drink in the evening, sometimes I overdo it a little, but after 35 years of it I think I’m quite proficient.

35 years of drinking for me too Mick...unfortunately most of that was Binge drinking...most of it on my own in a dark room..and in a dark place mentally.I have an addictive personality and have never been able to respect alcohol. My last drink was 5 or 6 "Old Rosie's" Scrumpy (7.2 %) 4 or 5 large Whiskies (japanese Hibiki) and a few Jaegermeisters all consumed in a matter of only a few hours. Some people should keep away from Alcohol,i am one of them....

Generally by the time a doctor tells someone to quit it's too late. But everyone has a different relationship with alcohol. I just know I can achieve more with less of it but the lazy part of me chooses the easier option too requently.

Yeah ok, but what about when you’ve “achieved” these things? You deserve a beer after that surely.

So you haven’t had a drink for a year? That’s great, your happiness is through the roof, great also.

But your idtmsstd thread started years ago, and I lost count of the times you were telling us how upbeat you were, everything going great, top of the world etc.

Was that true then?

Sure, that's the plan. Have a beer after a big swim or cycle event. That's an enjoyable beer.

I haven't drank in 9 years don't miss it people who do don't understand but why would they it's not for everyone but it suites me and that's all that counts and as you have experienced training is so much more rewarding without a hangover ?

When I was younger not at all but as I get older I get injured easier and now have lots of toys to help with lifting heavy stuff and my climbing is much more efficient. I Think strength is not a issue but cardio and flexibility are key. I stretch every morning and feel a lot better for it. I also run, skip and bike to keep my cardio up.

Your arms are lookin mighty chunky silky, the training clearly agrees with you and your physique is the proof.

I used to like a pint or 5 but i do t drink that much now, still get bladdered at xmas/new year, nights out but takes me about 3 days to get over the hangovers.

I still like a malt of an evening if im in the mood.

You need to find a balance between work and play but if your a better person off the sauce then thats the way to go id say.
