I have been in the industry for one year and have got CS 30/31, Woodchipper and CS 38 with aerial rescue

 

What sort of day rate should i be asking for ?

I'd pay you £80 a day, if you were an amazing worker and you could second guess my every move £100, if you could go up and finish my massive oak reduction after lunch to my standards then £150. Hope this helps.

The answer to your question is unfortunately, another question. How good are you?

The way I see it a solid groundy is worth £100 easily.

A lot of people bitch about not being able to find a decent groundy but won't pay more than £80.

If you can manage a site, liase with clients, drive and operate/ maintain equipment etc then possibly more.

With only a years experience though I reckon you'd have a way to go.

Personally I'd rather pay another decent climber a good rate, and have them running the ground.

I was talking about subby basis.

I forgot to mention, qualifications mean next to nothing. Just a foot in the door.

I agree with joe if it's a big job I sub in my old lead climber who I climbed with for years. He knows everything and anything that will or may happen and can finish off my climb if I can't. I pay him £150 cash. For smaller jobs I pay a local groundie £80 through the books.

out of interest what makes you a very good groundy?

I only ask because I've seen a lot of people come in on trial for various companies claiming to be at the top of their game and its usually disappointing.

In my experience the only very good groundie are climbers, or ex climbers. Just saying.
