Removing Dogwood hedge

The local council have asked me to remove a Dogwood hedge and replant something neater. The hedge is roughly 30m long and 2m wide. With it being Dogwood it has suckered everywhere and is a big, mangled mess. The only way I can think of doing this is to cut down and chip up the stems and get my stump man to come with his huge Bandit machine and grind the site over. Can anyone tell me if the 'bits' of Dogwood chips or any bits of suckers that may be missed or left in the soil will regenerate?  Am I best to spray the stumps with herbicide after cutting down and leaving the grinding for  a later date? Many thanks for any advice.

Back a mulcher over it , it will be gone in minutes. Then get a decent 360 with a rake and grub out the stumps/laterals.

if you are sure it's dogwood and there is anything 4" or bigger i'd love a bit of that for turning.

I don't have access to that sort of equipment, plus it's in a cemetery so I don't want to take big plant in there. It was more the question if it would try and regrow after it has been ground. I'm afraid it isn't big enough for turning. It's only a couple of inches at the Base but there's just so much of it.

Can you get a strop round and winch them out?

There isn't main trunks as such anymore, just a mass of stems coming out the ground throughout the whole length of the hedge where the Dogwood has suckered off and put up a new plant.

What we used to do was stump grind the whole area and then rake it out.  The rooted stems won't be very deep.  You should be able to get everything out.

Have you thought about spraying it first with glyphosate and leaving a week before you cut anything. The plants should die all the way down to the roots.

I think this is the only route to take if you want 100% success

Will a week be long enough? 

 

I don't know, would sufficient concentration get into the roots before the above ground growth was removed?
