First aid kit

Are there any recorded instances of Climbers saving their life through applying wound dressings before decending?

It would be interesting to know on what parts of the body climbers most often cut themselves whilst aloft.I am betting that its arm or hand.In the case of either injury, the time spent fumbling for a first aid kit on a harness and then attempting to apply it one handed might be better spent decending?

Cut my thumb with the silky, was down and out of the tree in 15 secs and my groundie had already got the kit out ready..good groundie, trained him well.

You don't have to apply it before decending! I'd get out of the tree quick if I could. Then reach to the wound dressing on my harness as soon as I hit the ground. It's good to have..

Got me a nice little ortlieb one. fits snuggly against the back of my harness and its completely water proof so no soggy contents. never had a problem with it coming off or getting stuck on branches or anything. if you can handle a chainsaw hanging from your ass whilst climbing, first aid kit shouldnt be that difficult.

I can't argue with the fact that its good to have a wound dressing close at hand.

Perhaps if groundies were encouraged to have a large "Shell Dressing" in the pocket of their Saw pants rather than a small one on the climbers harness. Then at least one Dressing is instantly available incase the other groundy hasn't made it back from the Van with the First Aid Kit by the time the climber reaches the ground?

Don't just view the situation from your own position and how you would deal with a personal injury.

Remember it's good for the first-aider ( eg. groundie) to reach an injured climber and find that he has usable dressings already on him that could be put to immediate use.
