Opinions on what constitutes a climbing saw

The key point is "one handable" - there will be many, many instances when you will have to make a cut with one hand at full reach, simply because your other hand will be occupied holding a branch to maintain your position. This is obviously only a factor when aloft, on the ground a backhandle saw is always superior.

Tell you what the MS261cm is so light and powerful now. I'm quick to get onto that nowadays if I have something big to cut in a tree - rather than strain the guts out of a topper just for the sake of it.

I would say generally a top handle saw capable of being operated with one hand.

 

After that it depends on what you are cutting so anything up to an 880 so long as you can use it safely!

The main criteria in yr chainsaw from rope n harness -is proper work positioning - if yr poor at that, don't realy matter what saw you got, yr cuts will be crap  k

( rear handled saws are more comfy where you get to lumping down a bare trunk )
