Carrots, 35p in asda, no brainer.

Whenever ive tried to grow them they are always punt and not worth the bother. Its the same story with fennel, never has a decent bulb. I do like the leaves though/foliage or whatever it is.

I think water is your friend here. Definitely with fennel, they're very thirsty. Plus lots of sun. Not sure about carrots, though they are cousins.

Space is limited for me, so I won't be growing day-to-day carrots, but I do intend to grow unnecessarily-large championship/comedy carrots in section of drainpipe filled with loose, sandy loam. As big as yer leg!

I'd have written a short letter but I didn't have the time.

It'll probably be too cold for them now, thems fussy buggers! You've picked one of the hardest things I think. The herb type fennel might be worth a punt, very similar flavour and a doddle to grow in comparison. It'll look after itself, needs virtually no water.

They look really good. No slug damage?

Weather hasn't been with us either in the UK, you're not alone.

No fortunately a while ago, I built a shelter using an old tarp and some posts I had left in my basement. I managed to save them, but my tomato plants are ruined.

What a summer it's been. Not had any decent weather since about May, the plants have just sat there not doing anything, but finally it's turned, the clouds have receded.

First courgette harvested of the year

Ripe blackcurrants aswell!

I don't know what the variety is, these bushes came out of my parents garden when I had to redo their soakaway in 2020. At the time I dug open, but had to wait for the quarry to reopen after the first covid lockdown.

The bushes must be 30yrs+ old, they were there when I was a kid

In the greenhouse, the tomato/strawberry barrels - the tomato plants have smothered the strawberries more than I imagined, but they're not great tasting strawberries anyway.

Loads of green tomatoes. Millions of flowers, I think a lot haven't been pollinated. With the poor weather there seems to be a real shortage of flying insects :dong:
