Was work a couple of weeks ago in Colchester and a white transit tipper turned up with 3 in it 2 dressed in Stihl gear but with trainers on. Start cutting a tree down and 1 of them all he did was walk up and down the roads on estate knocking on doors. Found out later they were offering tree-work, patio cleaning, re-stoning of drives to list some. The give away they were travellers was the ally water churn in the back of transit.

At least they haven't assumed the ultimate illusion of grandeur and ventured into inspecting or surveying trees yet.....:lol::lol:

Damn their eyes!

There's a scam reported as doing the rounds in Cornwall at the moment:

https://www.piratefm.co.uk/news/latest-news/2291787/watch-the-council-tax-scam-hitting-cornwall/

"...Warnings are going out to Cornwall over a new council tax scam.

Apparently fraudsters have been pretending to work for the council and offering tax refunds..."

I'm not buying it as a "new scam."

There have been clowns PRETENDING to work for the council for years....!!

With advanced age, the first thing to go is Judgement - or so I've read. That, combined with the practiced and sublet intimidation tactics used by the scum make resistance difficult. What gets me is this - how many doors do they knock on before they find a mark, on average? Like how many times are they turned away? 5:1?? 3:1?? WHY are the people in these neighbourhoods who ARE mentally coupus not reporting the incident to the police immediately? And if they are, why are the police not responding immediately? In rural Ireland, the white van guys have all but disappeared (and even our white van guys were generally not bad-uns) with community watch schemes. White van shows up, you make your excuses, and call the Guards. Guards send a text message to everyone in the area who signed up to the program (€10 a year) warning them about the white van. The people who aren't on the scheme get notified by their neighbours or family who are. Five minutes, and the who parish knows whats up, gates are locked, people are not caught off guard. This is community self-protection, its organic and natural. The reason these scumbags can ply their dirty trade is the "communities" they prey on are not really communities. Or thats how I read it, at any rate. There's a very easy fix to this problem, and that is the community alert program.

Where im from there is a community watch scheme and even with that the local guard's house got robbed during the day.

Well sure enough, determined gangstas will do their thing, but the schemes do work for the most part, and certainly cut down on the door to door white van nonsense. Just having a neighbourhood meeting once a year would be a help.
