Which bigger saw?

Frustrating yesterday as my MS261 15" was hacking away at a 3ft sycamore, it got through but was hard on it!

 

 

I'm looking at a ms461 as my first big saw and buying two bars to change between jobs, 25 " if I need it but also a smaller bar for smaller work.

 

Does anyone do this, swap the bars around depending on requirements of a job?

 

 

Would I be as well going the whole way and getting the 661 as it's only £100 more?

 

 

I'd still keep the ms261 for everyday duties

Keeping a couple of bars for different needs is a good plan, lots of peeps do that.

 

No one can say if you really need the 660, in a year or two (when the 461 has made you some money) buy one as well as the 461.

 

 

That's when it all starts......

461 is a fine saw and will run a 25" bar , our's are usually on 20" and that suits them well .

If you want to run anything bigger than a 25" I would go for a 660/661 or a husky 395 , all capable saws .

A selection of bars is a must in my opinion.

Buy the biggest you can afford for now. I was in the same situation in january, have a husky 346 and bought a 395. You'll regret not buying the 661 someday...

Unless you'll be climbing with it, I often wish I had something between a 361 and 660 when climbing, but cannot justify buying anything as can make do ok.

I have a 391 that has a 20" bar that I sometimes upgrade to 23" when needed, that bar combo is also used on my 041 and my 661 along with its standard 32".

It just depends on the job I'm doing, I normally noodle chunks with a 20" and ringing up with the.longer bars

if you're keeping the 261 I can't see any point in getting 2 different size bars for the 461. Just stick a 25" bar on and be done with it. 461 will be a better option than a 661 for you I would say.

Yup, get a 75cc saw. In my experience, saw maufacturers start to take their products seriously at that point.
