Hi everyone, i used my second hand chainsaw for one of the first times today, and about 30 minutes after cutting i noticed the exhaust was very hot. And i mean very hot,

 

I was wondering if anyone could help

But i can see from the previous owner the exhaust has melted some of the shell of the saw. Surely it shouldn't get this hot!!

Unfortunately, this is also not unusual.

Is it over revving ? it may be running a bit lean for whatever reason ( air leak , carb out of adjustment ) this would make it get hotter than it should , might even nip up .

It is possible to get melted plastic casings if they are not put on properly after a clean up.

 

I can guarantee, for example, that the stihl MS260 will do this if the top cover is not properly attached. Don't ask how I know this.

Where would the air leak be coming from? And how do i tell if its over-revving?
