It's very worrying that any Herbert can get his filthy hands on a skeleton key for transits, this has been a hot topic on the transit owners forum for a year or so, some owners who can't easily remove all their gear out every night have had extra high security locks fitted at quite an expense.

But what price is peace of mind when you're asleep in bed and your livelihoods sat out there on that dark wet street.

With respect to them (and it would be great if it wasn't the case) but leaving any equipment in vans overnight is risky. On a public road is really risky. Skeleton key or not you'd be rolling the dice every night as to whether you survive a break in. Locked garage with shielded, battery back up alarms all the way.

Have a look on youtube for bosnian bill It's not just van locks it's virtually all locks. It's frightening but some how quite interesting how it's done

Yep i had my new transit nicked this way.

It was only after that i learned about it.

If i had known i could have taken steps that amount to a few hundred quid or so that would greatly reduce the risk ( at least make it harder).

Far cheaper that the insurance excess alone, let alone the premium rise the following year.

Dont get me started on the incompetence of the police afterwards!

Ford can go take a leap, left me so open to protect their reputation its disgraceful.

If i had the time/ money inclination i would love to bring a lawsuit against them for basically turning a blind eye while the hard working man gets royally done over!

That may just be enough of a poke to actually give a damn.

You can change the ford lock barrel to a more secure one, £100 odd, fairly easy to fit.

Also look at securing the OBD port in some way.......:001_smile:
