How do you go on with supplying new employees with ppe? i have had a lad last 6 weeks before deciding its not for him! this is after spending around £350 on ppe.

As i understand its a legal requirement to provide them with ppe to which i don't mind paying for if they stay.

Its ot as if you can buy a pair of £20 arco boots and a 310 pair of trousers:sneaky2:

Why bother with expensive chainsaw gear if there only young lads, get em a pair of dickies and a 20 quid pair of work boots and see how they go for a couple of months dragging and swearing etc, if they have no ppe or don't know if they will like it then there new to the job and probably not able to use a saw anyway.

Like Ian says if they're fresh with no experience then see how they go dragging brash. If they have got chainsaw tickets chances are they'll have their own. All the lads I have employed started with their own gear, I then replaced that when it wore out.

This is the sensible thing to do .

Sounds like a sensible idea...everything is so bloody expensive!

Chance you got to take I am afraid. It's a legal requirement for employers to provide ppe. Obviously you get to keep it when they leave, make sure it's in the contract, but it is not good practice to hand out second hand ppe.

It may not be good practice but is it illegal? If the gear has only been used 6 weeks, a wash cycle should make it like new - who's going to know the difference? I'd be interested to know the ins and outs of this, as holding the PEE for the next lad was my first thought.
