Here is what I do with Boots that need Wax to treat the Leather.

 

Take the laces out on Friday night and put them on the window sill.You need to dry the boots properly before Waxing them.On the sunday eveing,put the Oven on "Bake" and set the themostat for 70deg C.

 

When the oven is warm TURN IT OFF and then put your boots in for fifteen minutes.This warms up the leather and as you apply the Wax it will melt into the area between the Soles and the Rubber sole,as well as into the holes for the stitching.

 

I treat my Klima Airs about evey month or so.They will let water in once the Wax comes out of them.No leather Boot withour some kind of lining is waterproof,its the Wax in the Pores of the Leather that keeps the water out.

 

eek! what do do that for? no need and risk of ruining the boot. leather should be left to dry naturally (stuff boot with newspaper replacing if it soaks) if you apply the wax in a warm room and work it with your fingers it will penetrate the leather no probs.

Have owned and worn most brands of boots but these are the Best pair of boots for climbing I have owned full stop! Never waxed mine though or the two pairs of Tyrol fighters I have owned before , never had an issue with wet feet until I have put a saw or axe in them!!

i had the tyrols and used to wax them every month or so in winter and they lasted me 4 years.awesome boots.

mike you need to get some kids in your life, you have far too much time on your hands mate, if i put my boots on the window alexander would throw them out, he would of found the wax and painted the walls with it and wee stewy would of tried to eat the cloth, and if i open my the wifes oven and there isnt something dead going crispy brown in there i wont be happy:biggrin:

so they're worth the money then? seeing as i'm in the market for new boots..

 

and from mattyf's post it seems there are more people who've stuck a saw in their boot,, just seems most keep it quiet..

Ady, Im just getting a pair of tirols run in at the moment, first time ive had "expensive" boots, and will definately go back to cheaper ones!

 

As for waxing/protecting I do intend to keep them right as its not all about waterproofing them, waxing also "conditions" and "feeds" the leather and therefore should keep it more supple and last longer.
