I wonder how they cope with paint?

 

I presume they are simply accelerating oxidisation? in the same way as gas cutting.

 

Blasting is good because it removes paint etc, if this just removes the rust but leaves manky paint on you're not much nearer really.

Blastings ok as long as the metal your blasting is sound, on old cars etc the metal can be very thin and blasting will damage it, with the lazer there is no force on your work. I was going to phone a mate who restores old vehicles and tell him to watch this, until it was mentioned that they start at 30k

According to this you can set depth and it will remove paint. £370k though so won't be an aldi special buy anytime soon!

You can blast with different materials for delicate stuff, I believe baking soda is good for car restoration.
