This isn't that, it tapers and the 1m includes bark, hence my calculations based on 75cm average dia

 

Yes, I did state knock a bit off for the bark, the OP states:

Who cares what it weighs? Just chain a skid plate on the thing and drag it up the bank, a twenty ton 360 will easily achieve that.

Ah...but if I know the weight and it's do-able, I might be able to avoid the expense of the 360 and get a local farmer to drag it up the slope with a tractor.

Believe me , if you're thinking of milling , the last thing you need is anyone, least of all a farmer dragging sawlogs about. Any sort of digger lifting the bulk of the log cleanly is far more preferable to spend hours sharpening because of mud and stone encrusted logs. Well meaning farmers with poor log handling techniques are the bane of my life. Diggers on site make my job a dream.

i guess the digger would have an advantage of lifting rather than dragging through muck in terms of future milling cutting.

Carlos, obviously we've both suffered helpful west cork fellas dragging trees about and making life hell afterwards. The "ooooohh no, don't do it" response just leaps out.

Surely a week of West Cork rain would wash the logs clean, no?

Failing that, a pressure washer perhaps?

I take your point about soiling the logs.

If accepted, the work will be done during the summer so hopefully no mud.

Dragging, compressing stones into the bark and branch unions, pressure Washing and more sharpening add time and cost to the sawmillers bill. Better to keep em clean in the first place. Keeps me happy which keeps the client happy.
