Don't use the auto tunes blunt myself as it does mess up the tuning .. 550 is a strange one I like mine but it can be difficult saw some times but I would not want a Stihl though. Have you ditched the spark arrester and use the primer,Quite regularly I just pull it over with one hand and flat down on the trigger if it does the hot start thing.. then once it's going she behaves fine.!

Interesting. Maybe they aren't talking guff then lol. The spark arrester is still on. I'm not to confident/know how to remove it. Any help on this?

I purchased a new 550 in 2014, it was good for a few months then one day it just suddenly would cut out mid cut, no warning or waning just stop, after a while I'd manage to start it again only for it to cut out again.

My solution- stick it under the work bench and deal with it another day- two years past and a month ago got it out again, started no probs and has been faultless ever since:laugh1:

Mines great. I did take it back to the dealer because it was sucking fine sawdust into the carb. But I had been cutting a lot of dust dead wood and have since found out that the filter needs to be cleaned more regularly than I was doing it. Still to be fair to the dealer they changed the air filter just to check

Yes . Get the correct size screw driver . Remove the one screw holding it in place . Slide it out of its location . Put the screw driver away nice and tidy . :001_smile:

Another thing I've found husky UK infinitely better to deal with than Stihl uk , the problem is you have to get past the main desk ! I think they obviously get lots of calls from irate users and won't put you through.. it's quite easy to get through to Stihl and be patronised to the point you will vow never to buy one of there machines again ....get chatting at the next show as they have gone out of the way to help me.
