The invention of god is one of the highlights of mans nastiness, IMO.

 

The idea that an all powerful creator would make a wasp thats whole life cycle relies on the use of a child's eyes, leaving it blind, yeah right

 

The fact that the evils of nature are simply happenstance are it redeeming feature, IMO.

But a moral compass, right or wrong, good or bad are learned behaviour.

As an infant, right or wrong has no meaning, until you are taught by those that raise you the concept of right or wrong simply doesn't exist.

 

So how is it wrong for people to teach this right or wrong distinction by weaving it into a story? It helps people makes sense of the world.

The idea that right and wrong can be taught is utter cobblers, IMO, sure as a child this guidance is help full, but its not long term.

 

We learn from experience, we know how it feels to be treated badly and if we are any kind of decent person we endeavour to treat others as we would wish to be treated. Not to avoid punishment or achieve some reward.

 

As others have said, most of us know people from good homes who turned out bad and vies versa.

But those well brought up folk that turned bad, did they do that entirely on their own? Or is it likely they reacted to influences from outside their own head?

Character forming is a lifelong process I think, and many things in life can have unexpected consequences.

 

Anyway, my point was that for some people weaving their teaching and maintaining of morals into religion is helpful.

Not for me either, but that doesn't excuse the anti-religious hatred being expressed IMHO.

 

As an aside, afaik all the world's cultures, both modern and ancient have an element of religion, tribes that haven't been in contact with other folk for thousands of years have their own gods.

Is there some human need for religion we've managed to reason our minds away from, are we just in denial?

Cant wait to see the garish colour(color) clash when Trump

(i) Swills a Guinness for the Irish press.

(ii) Wears the Trump tartan.

I will keep the sunglasses handy just in case.
