With the watchdog program and the comments about it I was wondering what people think about 'over' charging for a job.

Now personally I think it doesnt matter what you charge as long as you arent taking advantage of the customer along the lines of "Its really dangerous and needs doing now" or badgering an old/gulliable person into A price that you know it isnt worth (may have not worded that very well but hope you get my meaning)

So if for example that job on the tv was really worth say £200 would I be a bad person to ask for £600?

Surely if I do exactly what I say I am going to do for the £600 and pay tax's have insurance, use qualified staff etc then it isnt ripping anyone off. I'm not forcing the customer to accept my quote.

Or is it morally wrong some how.

Do you agree?

the watchdog price would have been paid even if it had been £2,k, this could be the wrong thread :confused1:

The three trees in question more or less could have been cut at the bottom and carried out on the shoulder in one peice, I'd have done it for £200 no problem, three £200 jobs in the day and your on a winner with an early finish.

I'd have even ragged em over with a mini winch and got the roots out too for the same price.

You do charge a lot you lot :001_smile:

Ok forget about the watchdog pricing, guy involved etc.

What I'm getting at is can you charge too much?

I think my own prices are reasonable (as I'm sure we all do) but do you think that someone charging way more than you would is ripping off the customer?

I must admit that on occasion a customer has said I have been quoted £xxxxx and I've thought " the robbing gits" but I now think so what they can charge what they want aslong as they do what they say they will do.

Maybe this id a stupid thread/poll, feel free to ignore it, post or say how stupid I am. :001_smile:

At the end of the day the customer should get other quotes, the problem is where we get to the elderly who are vunerable and can easily get confused.

Its the vunerable that need protection

Thick people can't be helped so if your thick enough to accept such a high quote then really there's no help

I know what you mean, If someone where to price a job at £1000, did the job and got paid £1000, Then a few other firms said it was a rip off and they would have only charged £300 that to me doesnt make the first firm a rip off.

As you said though, if the firm bullys and old dear into paying big money OR goes into a job thinking "haha ill have these over here" then that is wrong

I agree there.

We have prob all been to price a job were the old dear more or less has her cheque book out ready to pay before we have even given them a price.

I think it comes down to them 'trusting' us rather than being gullible, maybe same thing. This is definitely were people are taken advantage from and robbed blind.

I have been doing the same job at the same price for the last 7 years to an old dear, its worth nothing now and probaly costs me to do it, but I feel bad if I had to charge her more plus I wouldnt want her to get anyone else in since we have to go through the house to do the work.

Although it is a grand for a days work so bingo!:001_smile:

Yeah jk. more like £60 for 2 hours.
