Sorry for this old chestnut again. We charge £480/day for 2 men and chipper just wondering what people are charging for 2 men and a mini loader (Avant) i have been charging the same but wondering if i should be charging a little more.

Hired in a 5tonne digger and operator to dig out masses of laurel roots, they charged £580 for the day, i thought that was steep and got me thinking.

That's steep for digger, about 260 - 300 round here.

A little loader has less wear parts than a chipper so possibly slightly cheaper to run but depends on chipper how it compares on purchase price.

Think about the same really. Better to price on job as could get same money in less time as quite specialist bit of gear with not so many around.

yea the machine was £300 per day plus 180 haulage plus vat.

The jobs we have used the loader on it has saved us loads of time and back ache, mainly using it to drag out wood and feed brash to bonfires. i think i recall someone reckoning on charging it out as an extra man but i recon its worth more than that.

Did that price for the digger include a haulage cost, haulage is usually around £50 an hour so could have been a fair bit of that cost if in included delivery/collection? Otherwise I would say that was very steep for just a 5 tonner and operator, particularly if it's just with a bucket and no specialist attachments.

I'd say your price for the Avant and 2 blokes sounds about right myself.

I suspect it's worth what ever the job requires, if it's just the right machine to do a given job it's worth more than if it was doing something that any old machine could do(whatever that was!) Avant are far more speacialist than diggers and could probably command more money even if machine purchase price is same or less.

2 men and a chipper is useful, I'd imagine with a loader you be far better placed just offering machine and operator, what would the role of the second person be?
