Neat idea Andy, i think that could be a very good sollution! Also with regards to the slider, is steel on steel good enough or would a nylon insert be a better idea?

Cheers

Dave.

Alright Dave . We have a brass wear plate as this is a softer metal .

Its a drill, a big one for making holes in rock faces and suchlike.

They “grout” fill them to stabilise the structure or you can put explosive compound in and have much more fun.

How about using a small slew ring off a 1/1.5t mini digger. You could mount a heavy plate on top and it should easily take the loads. You should be able to pick a second hand one up from a plant breakers.

Cheers for the suggestions! I've decided to put 20 bearings underneath as well as a bit of box section in the middle to stop any bend in the bottom, this is the cheap option as I got 10 bearings for £7.50 :D . In theory the bearings will easily take the load, just have to see how/if the plate bends under the pressure! The splitter is half built, and weighs quite a bit already! I'll put some pics on soon!

Well.... the cylinder is the most costly thing, but a control valve is about £60, pipes with all the connectors is about £80, the bearings were £7.50 for 10, the steel propably cost me £100/150 but I did have some of it already and quite a bit came from the scrapyard! if you can get your hands on the hydraulics then thats the most expensive part of the log splitter! Hope that helps! How big is the cylinder? :D
