What's the latest with pole chainsaws? ours is about goosed and needs a new head and shaft so is not really worth it, its a HT101 4 mix, been good but I don't really like the 4 mix stuff, what's the husky and echo equivalent models like or just stick to stihl?

Please not a husky/stihl slagging match but info from people who have used the other makes.

I use the stihl ht 101 polesaw and its been a decent servant, ours is 2 stroke mix.Ive bent the shaft a while back so it doesnt extend right out to the maximum.

I will say this-the hand and arm vibrations on them are very high so watch your exposure time using them

Another vote for the Echo.

It is also a fair bit heavier than the Stihl, but then again a Unimog is heavier than a BMW 4x4

The Echo also has a small plastic section in the drive train which is designed to fail before any damage is done to the complicated and expensive shaft. It costs about £4.00 to replace, though ours has lasted 4 years. We carry a couple of spares just in case.

I used to use a Stihl but got fed up with replacing the drive shaft each time we Knack'd it.

I have a 4 mix pole hedge trimmer which had two tanks worth of use then spent months being looked at. Its a 'kin disgrace that we don't even take it out now as it's so unreliable. I would never touch a 4 mix again.

Thanks so far, our 4 mix stuff Inc pole hedge cutter has been good but I don't like the torquey vibs on them and the noise is no better than a 2 stroke I fact I find it more annoying. Any long reach husky users?

another vote for echo we've got 2 and they are pretty good if you do get one make sure you get the wee plastic bushes in your toolkit they fall out every now and then especially if you are changing between trimmer and chainsaw heads good piece of kit

I've got a husky long reach hedge cutter that's been abused and it's been good. Our pole pruner is an ancient Stihl that's only brought out a few times a year but it replaced an echo that I didn't think much too as it kept breaking every time it was used fully extended.

Oh I don't know then Matty, still listed on Jonsies site but I wonder if there soon to be replaced? will ask Justin.

,

Edit- Just had word from Lord Jones who says he doesn't know of any plans for stihl to drop the 4 mix engines.
