What is the shortest logs you have been asked to supply?

Only have one customer that struggles with 10" logs so next load she gets will be cut to 8". Her husband recently had a stroke though so will just do it at normal price.

She complains about softwood smelling when it burns even though she smokes like a chimney in the house and I come away stinking even though Ive only been there mere minutes [emoji85]

When I worked for someone we cut 4 inch and split small for a couple of customers with small open fires took bloody ages to get a load cut.

Interestingly I have recently tried some slabwood processed through Will's branch logger and they are just this size, can be shoveled into the stove.

I just had a thought, do some people want short logs to load stove 'north/south'? Lots of smaller logs will burn hotter than one or two longer ones.

they wont burn hotter, just quicker. You cant get more heat out of it just because its shorter.

smallest I do is 150mm, and 450mm max, which is for my fire:001_smile:

Same amount of heat/ kg of logs but because they burn quicker the stoves output can be higher. Certainly works in my stoves.

That's my view too, expose more surface area to burning and increase air supply in proportion and power goes up.

Oh dear. Some basic physics needs applyimg lads.

yes but cutting smaller, you get more surface area, they burn hotter adn quicker. You cannot get more energy out of a log by cutting it smaller, it just releases that energy quicker.

if I have small stuff on my 11kw, I have to shut the vents down on to stop overfiring. If I burn bigger logs, I can open the vents, and het a longer more controlled burn.
