Too me tickets are only part of it.If someone is a great worker with a genuine interest in arboriculture id pay them more than a person with the relevant groundie tickets but doesnt give a toss about pulling his weight or furthering themselves.

I like your style i believe the harder you work and have more dedication to the company the further you will go and therefore worth more money along with the tickets u have within reason. If that makes sense

I was speaking to a labourer on a building site this week. He said in the summer he was working an 84 hour week and clearing £1,200....

And here's me thinking it is all Eastern Europeans working for nowt in the building trade

I reckon things need to be in perspective. ... How are blokes who can do aerial rescue if required, are competent on the ground and can use a saw legally not be worth £100 a day?... I think it's time to get real on this.

£100 a day is over £26,000 a year. Which is about the salary of a Nurse. Their training cost rather more then 2 weeks and £1000..

well I can see why you're only partially interested in tree work then, if your current job can support that

What would you think it cost a company to pay a lad 80/day on the cards?

You'd have to know what the company were charging for his day would you not?

Rough estimates£23,500

About £22,000 including National Insurance contributions.

Plus £500 odd in PPE, maybe another £1000 training

He would have to be charged out at at over £100 to break even, plus VAT.

On those grounds how much should a GOOD self employed subbie be on a day?

For a freelance to make 23,500 they would need to be on just over £100 a day.

Or £110 if spending the £1000 training and £500 PPE
