timber crabe hydraulics

So I have two hydraulic hoses plugged into the back of the tractor, one flow one return, to work my timber crane.

Every so often the flow hose pops out of the tractor and the crane instantly stops working.

Sometimes the lever for activating the spool, inside the tractor, disengages and sometimes it doesn't, when the hose pops out.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Do as jake suggested to start with. There is a ring of ball bearings on the female connector that sit in a groove on the male, if either of these is dirty or damaged then any increase in pressure can cause them to pop off. failing that all I would suggest is to ensure that your return is going straight back into the tank rather than back through the spool as that can also create a sort of back pressure.

Let us know how you get on

Tom and Brushcutter are right, the last thing you want is back pressure in the return pipe as this can pop out the seals at the end of the spools.

In your case it fails safe as it is the supply that is popping out but it is always best to return direct to tank rather than through the return of a spool as there will be less back pressure and hence less heating of the oil.

She's still popping out.

Returning to the tank now and not through the spool.

Fitted a new male quick release coupling, incase it was worn.

If the flow rate from the tractor is too high, could this be the problem?

Female fitting will almost certainly be your problem.

Fittings are designed to take full pressure, any pressure increase for whatever reason will cause the relief valve to blow off.
