Less name calling, more reasoned and reasonable debate please. As adults with (I assume) positions of responsibility, we should be capable of that.

To be fair, some here who lean politically to the right are able to hold a discussion... though this is often up to the point where Trump gets criticised... but discussing around a subject kind of works. There are some who are unable to hold any discussion.

I'd concur though that the right leaning commenters here tend to fire out the insults and those with the left leaning thoughts kind of let them wash over their heads rarely trading insult for insult... but that is to be expected when their 'hero' is doing exactly the same thing just on a grander scale.

More wishy-washy hand wringing from the loony left. How are you supposed to score political points without calling people libtards, liars, soybois, and weaklings?

Peds if the cap fits wear it, you and 3 others on here often throwing in the standard Trump jibes were very quick to throw out unfounded and blatantly dishonest accusations and claims elsewhere on the forum. That behaviour and a total reluctance to provide proof or in some cases straight and honest answers pretty much set the mark for you guys as far as I’m concerned.

This thread and the topic that it discusses is now beyond depressing.

It's not like you can really even parody or satirise what Trump et al are doing now as it's so extreme, so debased and so divorced from reality that there is no way to exagerate it for comedic effect.

Comparisons to 1930s Germany are not without merit. As Trump and Musk ignore the judiciary, as they remove or disempower the checks and balances of executive power, as they contravene democratic rights, as they undermine the economic grounding of the poorest whilst furnishing themselves with unimaginable riches, it's difficult not see the value of historic comparisons, as well as fear for the direction in which the US is heading.

I find it really frustrating that on this thread, that those on the right of the political debate very rarely actually engage in attempts to rationalise or justify the actions of the Trump administration (see how I resisted the temptation to call it a regime? I almost didn't even mention the word regime!) and rather lower themselves to name calling.

It would be really nice to see more compassion towards those that are being directly negatively affected by Trump's policies, like the auto workers in the US who's livelihoods are being jeopardised by this needless trade war that he's started with Canada. Or, more broadly, every single person in the lower four quintiles of the economic strata, for whom tariffs represent a significant tax rise.

Less name calling, more reasoned and reasonable debate please. As adults with (I assume) positions of responsibility, we should be capable of that.

There is no reasoning to be had J

Opinions are set in stone as well you know. I’m not a particular fan of trump personally but he’s been voted in and that’s that. No different to the UK I think Labour will be a disaster for the UK strangely “ the silence on this is deafening on here”, and more worryingly Starmer seems to have that Blairite war monger urge in him too.
As I’ve mentioned previously there are a handful on here who throw all sorts of accusations around without any proof or evidence and will not despite repeated requests provide any proof 🤷‍♂️that sets a tone J, the same as if you ask a straight question about why someone feels the way they do regards tax or double cab pick uk status etc ie are those views perhaps driven by employment status etc etc. Absolute refusal to answer a straight question does not make for fair and honest debate. You yourself have never hidden your political views or what you do for a living, I’m exactly the same,I respect the fact you acted upon your convictions and moved out of UK, I utterly disagree with 90% of your political views but that’s neither here nor there. The anonymity ( if people choose to use it) the internet brings unfortunately makes this type of shit inevitable. Offline I’ve had interaction with yourself and a few others on here including milling for some of you, I don’t think any of you have found me to be the racist, Islamophobic, homophobic ultra right wing character often alluded to in the fantasies of certain members. I’ll use the word Clowns J because it’s appropriate in this case, none of them have ever witnessed my dealings with multiple races or religious beliefs ( something I probably experience more than most on the forum with my work) yet have so much BS to say on the matter.

🤡 I rest my case

Well you certainly just made BigJ's case!

So come on then, now's your chance; why do you think it a good idea that the President of the USA behaves like a mean spiteful vindictive child and uses government instruments to humiliate anyone who has stood up to his childish stupidity.
