My Meindl airstreams have been pretty excellent but have been getting damp tootsies lately.

I noticed the front sole seem a bit low on tread but no signs of holes.... anyone else had a similar damp tootsie problem? Would having new soles fitted help?

cheers, steve

I've got that problem with mine i think the sole at the front comes unsealed as they wear. I've had a few pairs and they all do it. I would just replace them i think

They are a stout looking pair of boots! I particularly like the boot knife, however I'd probably slice my calf or shin putting it back in it's scabbard!

It gets worse, much worse, carbon fiber, titanium n whatnot....

The class 3 Andrews are canny warm. May not be ideal for India. Airstreams were cooler on the foot but Andrews are comfier and warmer. Airstream's would be be better for tropics I reckon but I think your feet will still resemble cauliflowers when you take them off.

Thanks. I've worn Airstreams in the "winter" over there and they were warm then already, but bearable. I will give the Andrews a pass then and get another pair of Airstreams as they seem the coolest.

Sorry for slight derail...

cant find 11.5's half sizes stop after 10.5 - size 12's are ok in winter as i wear thick wool socks - but causes me grief in summer on long drags - best pair of Haix i had were EU 46 2/3rds spot on fit but nowhere does them anymore

Are the Meindl Airstreams good/comfy enough to wear hillwalking? I need some new walking boots but could also do with a decent pair of safety boots for surveys so wondered if the Airstreams would double up well.

Yes, they'd be perfect for that.

In full time Arb work though, they don't tend to last more than a year anymore...

I can't fault the Tirol Fighters by Pfanner. First few weeks are a bit clunky but they are nigh on indestructible.

Admittedly I don't climb, but the guy I work with does and we both bought ours around the time of the APF 4 years ago and have both only just bought new boots - mine were resoled about 8 months ago and his are still on their original soles, albeit about bald.

I foolishly bought some different boots at the last APF (meindl Woodwalkers) and they were dead comfy but started to fall apart after two weeks and went back. Lesson learnt and replaced with another pair of Tirols.
