  1. Past hour
  2. I can see this going to "how many of us used to squeeze in the back of the ..... " - driver, passenger, 4 in the back was common, and on special occasions 2 in the boot with the parcel shelf removed so they could hear us shout "duck". Most in a police car... driver, passenger and 4 in the back.....
  3. Plenty of swallows already breeding up here in the Cheshire/Derbyshire borders. Just can't get the little buggers to nest in the boxes under the shed gutters, might try some wooden ones instead of the plastic/concrete ones I spent a fortune fitting.

    Jokes???

Yeah, I remember the old three point linkage balancing act as well.
  5. Just found this shot of our old school bus drop off point with the house in the background.

  8. Saw 1st swallow a fortnight ago, just passing through, resident ones now arriving. Cuckoo heard for about last week. We are high in Brecon beacons above Llandovery.
  9. Yes, we were dropped off at the end of the farm drive. When it was snowing Dad used to take us down in the tractor to meet the bus. In the summer I used to put a foot each on the three point linkage arms and hold on to the cab behind his seat. Seemed dodgy at the time, even dodgier looking back.
  10. Crimping may be better if it needs to flex a lot.

  13. So what do I mean by TLC at the start? That mulching - needs to be nice and deep. Maybe deeper than I can see on the photo. Keep it away from the base/union - and top-up regularly. Keep it well watered. In the summer - depending on conditions - at least once a week or more often. A thorough soak of the root-ball and the soil around and further out to encourage the roots to spread. If it's in scorching hot sun - consider some shading for the first year or so. This can be a real faff - but it's something we do if we start to see leaf-tips browning. We erect a bit of shade fabric on some stakes to give that shade. I would also keep it staked. I know you've removed the stake - but it's a tall tree with [what looks like] a small root-ball. It needs enough support in the short-term for those roots to bed-in. I'd drive a short, stout stake in at 45 degrees near the base and then tie/strap it in there. This will leave the majority of the stem to whip around in the wind - and the base nice and anchored. The trunk will then stiffen and grow properly - and the roots will be able to do their stuff.
  14. Does that tip have a knurled nut with a spring and fuse ?. Thinking if it was a loose nut causing a poor connection then melting the plastic.
  15. Thanks for the help and advise. Just to be clear when you are saying they may need abit more TLC at the start, what sort of things are you talking about? Additionally if I just leave the roots in place as is you are saying it will just resolve its self? I have mulched the tree, I took the stake out about 1 week ago after 8 months as I read studies online saying trees allowed to blow in the wind will grow stronger vs a tree supported by stakes. I think it's strong enough to not get damaged. Thanks again
  16. That’s good going, my drive belt was goosed after about 15hrs. The original 130 I had they lasted a good while but for some reason I seem to be going through them in no time. The issue manifests itself in the form of the tracking going off and the bands migrating to front of the wheel. I’ll possibly try and get some better quality replacements and see how it pans out.

  19. Looking for woodchip that can be used for pathways in our forest school. Big site to drop at and people on site from 9-5. Ideally would be able to drive onto our playing fields to drop at the far end of our site (see pictures attached).
  20. I didn't think this thread was so old Just seen my first one of the year; a bedraggled specimen on a phone wire There must have been sightings around the country earlier surely...? I also heard a cuckoo just once last week; presumably it was passing through
  21. Cheers for the reply Adw, looks like it's £70 for a new one or soldier on a replacement plug.

  24. Reminds me of the youth rugby sevens tournaments. Our team often travelled in one of the parents car together. I remember one Saturday when it was so wet the local joinery business sent out it's workers with yard brushes to sweep the water off the pitch, after the tournament we were all sent to the burn and stripped off to get clean before being allowed to wedge ourselves into a Honda civic in our underpants to head home. One of our coaching team was the local bobby.
  25. The weird thing is the OP said they have replaced the pump last week, so it wont have had time to fail or block up? Are all replacement parts OEM and with part numbers that match those listed as compatible in the manual? As above has there been a mix up. Before you fitted the pump was it easy to turn manually?
  26. I saw this last night - hopefully the rights of the dead and injured burglars carry less weight than those who appear to have been defending their property. (Although I admit to a great deal of speculation here on my part!).
  27. Murder arrest after men shot during burglary - BBC News WWW.BBC.CO.UK Police say a man died and another was seriously injured following reports of a burglary.
