  1. Past hour
  2. You say it had a cheap Chinese spark plug . Was it too long a reach and the bottom electrode snapped off ? ( he said using the quote tab 😀 )
  3. Sadly it has come to light that one person was killed and another injured by the police as well as the attacker.
  4. It’s there, present and correct. (And finally he uses the quote function to reply to the suggestion 🙄 )
  5. it's possible it's not all of the original parts, as you say it looks like it was thrown loosely back together. I had an old pioneer here that looks like it was ran on a mixture of fuel and gravel, that too showed little evidence of bottom end damage too. the black areas of the crank could be the heat treatment from the factory, or maybe a sign of severe overheating, which could have contributed to the resultant wreck. I would completely dismantle it and assess from there. if you got it cheap it could be made into a decent saw again with a little tlc and a few parts.
  6. Circlips present and correctly fitted, probably as fitted 30 plus years ago. Carb looks good. Exhaust is cosmetically good condition on outside, all looks carbon grey through the port and exit hole. Something back through the exhaust gets above the piston though.
  7. Is it the pin that stops the piston ring rotating in the ring groove ?
  8. Looks like Rick Parfitt ?
  9. What would you call the basics?
  10. Air filter present under the cover but not fitted, just floating about. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone gave up trying to fix it, just threw it back together, top cover screws were loose too. Something dropped down the inlet or fallen off the carb was my first thought - seen this before too. BUT I’m discounting this because there is absolutely no damage below the piston…. not a mark. Am I wrong ? Tillotson carb on it if that helps.
  11. I have had a piston look like that first time was piston ring second was circlip holding gudgeon pin in broke up. Your fragments look to big for ether. Are carb butterflies intact. Or if saw has had a knock and metal from exhaust.
  12. Was the air filter present and intact, I get a lot of cheap, often free saws that have just been used and chucked back in the shed for years with no maintenance whatsoever, this looks very much the case here. it didn't come from wales did it?
  13. Today
  14. Let’s see what the Arbtalk brains and experience can come up with. Then we can talk about repair, upgrade piston and cylinders 🤔😊
  15. I don’t know the answer BTW, it’s a saw I just bought on market place for next to no money and is otherwise good condition. It does have a new Chinese spark plug fitted with signs of combustion …. Talking of which the other thing that looks odd to me is the leading edge of the crankshaft weights that are really black.
  16. A few bits of extra info… there is no damage below piston, none. The bits I found in the piston and cylinder are ferrous. It’s not the piston ring as that’s in one piece…
  17. Right then time for a little puzzle…. What broke? Have a look at the pictures for the damage.
  18. I don’t remember seeing one. Only recall loads of ladybirds, biting and a surfeit of greenflies often getting into the potato salad - couldn’t tell the difference between them and chopped parsley 🤣
  19. No I’ve not been Andy Im just actually popping down to see him now, vessel he’s on is in Aberdeen sheltering for Storm Amy coming in. I think anyone but more likely it will be tourists, accommodation he is building is spot on.
  20. Tip site is far end of carpark, there is a code to enter, call me for access and i can direct you to tip site, many thanks
  21. Very cool. Is he catering to locals or tourists? Have you been out?
  22. I’ve no doubt it is but as I said they are trained for it and why would they be in any way negatively affected by putting a murdering scum bag down. Mark most people whom take on roles where carrying a firearm is involved are fully aware that at some point they may have to use it. Stick to the ROE and you are covered, seems they did that, job well done, all the training worked. Cost of a couple of 5.56 as you say, far better than years in jail.
  23. Rigging Research Report 2008.pdf Kram, this is a few years old now but physics doesn't really change much. Takes some reading but will answer some of your questions about weights, loads, impact forces etc.
  24. I will admit its more that I do not want to employ anyone, I dont have the experience to become an arb business yet. I will do small jobs that are mostly within my abilities, mostly hedge trimming and small tree pruning. If it turns out to be beyond my ability I will get an experienced arb friend down, which as it turns out, I am doing today. Its about 60" where I wanted to do the felling cut of the pole and having a 28" bar, thought I'd trim the side a little as theres bad access that side, garage and rubbish. Found it to be hollow where I wanted my hinge to be. New plan is to chog it down from rope/ladder/spikes.
  25. I have a small Christmas tree plantation. Norway, nordman and some more interesting ones I can't resist planting alongside them that no-one ever chooses! I try to use as few chemicals as possible which means I end up doing a LOT of strimming. I have used kerb a bit soon after establishment, which works. And I've also tried chickens, without much success. (You know how every chicken run you've ever seen is bare mud at the base. That's what I was hoping for, but instead the sward of grass and weeds is pretty much as thick as ever - I think i need 50+ chickens rather than the 7 I currently have.) Anyway, some questions: Does anyone know if Kerb flo / granules is poisonous to chickens? Or to us if we eat their eggs? Can i plant a seedling into ground that has been sprayed with kerbflow earlier in the winter? Any top tips for weed control in (small) christmas tree exclosures? Thanks ! C
  26. Perhaps. Even though they are trained, it's still quite rare for a copper to fatally shoot someone in the UK: England and Wales fatal police shootings 2024| Statista WWW.STATISTA.COM In 2023/24, the police in England and Wales fatally shot two people, compared with three in the previous reporting year, and six in 2016/17.
