In theory the separation thing works. In practice for a few months of the year it’s impossible to pick and choose where in the field you tip. You’re just lucky to get in and out.

Loads from facebook... I would be wary - usually it is leylandii or similar, the big money is in hard wood which is rarely given away on facebook. Reading your posts above, sounds like you have a bit of a yard available - could be a better option to talk to the local tree surgeons direct and persuade them to use you as a tip site - plus side is it is delivered (might have to pay fuel money), bad side is it is going to be more softwoods than hardwoods. Rather that than random bits of wood from back gardens.

My Landlord has loads of trees come down during storms then just drags them out the way and leaves them so I expect he'd let me have them cheap or even for a percentage of what I sell. I wouldnt have many overheads like allot do only fuel, rent (that I pay allready) and the wear on the gear but parts for my stuff is cheap so I can afford to buy some any way. I do see lots of people giving loads away on facebook just have to be quick onit is the only thing but then its the travelling to get it does it make it worth doing.

I reckon you could get a decent sized mulcher in and still have plenty of change. Be easier to mark off areas for chip, log, firewood for next time round. Do Joslet not have a forestry mulcher?

They do but only in Dutch or French. My French is okish but wouldnt have enough. I have no Dutch at all so going to the uk might be best option

I asked as when I was felling there was a steady supply of surplus for firewood, if you intend to process firewood where would you source it from.

Tractor driving, engineering anything I can turn a hand to really was thinking about doing fencing and hedgelaying as thats a busy business here.

I got a pick up truck and rent yard space for my gear allready so thats sorted still have all the wood processing kit from dad, chainsaws the lot so I should hope I wouldnt need to buy any thing. I would like to think theres a a market but I know a chap thats planning on going into wood as he goes around with a tree shear on a digger and can get the wood free, then theres probably another 4 or 5 I can think of off the top of my head within 15 miles of me so I imagine its a saturated market and would be pointless attempting it. Was only a thought to get my gear earning some keep again but wasnt exactly going to be my number 1 income.

Tractors, winch, Sawbench, Logsplitter, 4M Hiab, trailers. He done hundreds of tons with it still got it all. No undercover space he always just let it air dry then when seasoned it was processed into trailers left to dry and was ready when people ordered, when he sold a trailer load processed another lot. Think its not really a viable way to do compared to others as they will have the capacity to do more. I dont think I'll end up doing it was just a thought as I used to really enjoy it as a kid

Do you have enough work coming in to sustain your kit and staff if you don't win the contract? I think you're going in too cheap. In 3010 the Forestry Commission would pay £650.00 for two crew plus van and chipper. That's worth £1,006.20 today.
