Hi,is anyone in the know on how to keep your website in a good position on the search engines? Ive had a site running for about 18months and it was generally on the first page for searches in my surrounding areas, however about 3 weeks ago it has dropped off and is'nt even in first 10 pages now unless i do a direct search for it.Ive updated my keywords and meta tags but still no joy???:confused1:

Does your website produce relevant content that is readable by search engines? It's likely you held a position but have been over taken by other websites with more up to date relevant content. Always posting news and things going on will help by far the most, hopefully your website is not 'static'.

You should regularly change your meta tag's, description and title as search bot's will degrade your relevance if they go over them a certain amount of times and they are the same.

No one will give you the answers without cash in seo.

this is the magic behind a website and like all magicians seo developers will pull your pants down but if done right can work.

The are millions of ways to rank well to fine tune a site you will need to contact a web company of seo specialist but expect high prices.

If you can build sites yourself and are proefficient with code you can have a crack your self .

Have you got google analytics put on?

So simple to use and then you can see what key words people are typing in and then maybe adjust some of the wording in your website.

Also link to other good websites that get good ratings.

As Rob points out, there are two ways to make your site get attention.

1: Pay for it to be a featured listed - Expensive.

2: Have a site that is likely to be found when people search for something relevant to its content.

Linking to recognised sites of suitable affiliation is a good way. Once your name or product is out there & people are searching you in your own right, you will climb back up the rankings. Simply put word association or cool by association.

I've just done a search for tree surgeons in your location in google and found your site on google local, which is great for geting to the front page for searches, i'd say that your front page on your site needs some description, you only have your address and phone number on there and the google bots won't link that to tree surgery!

I found you need lots of relevant content, with your keywords used as much as possible.

So Tree surgeons, tree surgery, hedge trimming, stump grinding etc needs to be repeated as much as possible, but within relevant text. I have also found you need to get the areas in which you work added.

Reciprocal links from other websites help too. I pretty much built my website and its on the first page of google without any paid ads. If you want a link from my site drop me a pm and I'll add one. :thumbup1:

Professional Tree Surgeons in Bournemouth and Poole : Lennox Services

Its not a great site, but was cheap and seems to work well.

I found getting some reviews on my google maps page helped too.
