Hi Guys, Currently got signage on the work van in the form of magnetic signs. Can’t remember where they were made. Changed email address so need to get new ones. Just wondered where people are going for their Van advertising and if printed magnets are the best option? is there somewhere online you can upload designs etc? Can only see Vista Print and the ones they make are too small. cheers

I second this. Quite a high boot compared to the Airstreams I had before. Plenty of support though. -
Crates from a large Uk supermarket. Heavy duty. Stackable. The holes means air circulates so your gear gets air. they even do two sizes. We keep all carabiners and slings in the small ones, then a full climbing kit, harness, ropes lanyards etc in another for each of the team. Works great. You can see all your gear at a glance and don’t have to go rummaging through bags looking for things. every little helps.

Reach out to a local Arb college. They will need companies to put their students on placements. Usually only one day a week but nothing stopping you getting the lad/lass in more days if they are keen.

A maul definitely has it’s uses for the heavier more seasoned stuff but get your hands on a Fiskars X21 axe. About £60 but worth every penny. The fibreglass shaft is virtually indestructible so the odd miss swing won’t hit you in the pocket. It’s incredibly lightweight and your body will thank you for it. I know a lot of the purists prefer a traditional ash handled axe, but the X21 is a game changer imo -

I’d be a Copper Beech. Large and imposing. My nuts are housed in a prickly case. I cast a dense shade and nothing good grows in it. My sole purpose in life is to darken everything around me.

We have literally the same set up. The Little Giants only get used every now and again but can do things the Hendons can’t so worth having. If you can only afford one get the Tripod Style first.

The labradoodle doesn’t share Hugh’s sentiment on how tasty Grey squirrel is. She caught it and killed it but she atleast gave it the honour of a proper burial. The Mrs found its feet sticking out the compost pile.

Had the exact same issue with ours. If there’s any build up of sawdust etc within the sprocket cover it does this. Also does the same thing if the chain is ever so slightly too tight.

Another tip I don’t think anyone has mentioned is using a sling as a foot loop. If the branches are too far apart to climb like a ladder or reach up to then girth hitch a sling onto the stem and put your foot in it. I would steer clear of throwbags whilst you’re starting out. Learning how to coil rope as described above is essential. How will your progress if you drop your throwbag once day? Learn the basics first before buying any shiny kit. There will be plenty of time for that 😂

A great saw and ours has definitely earned its place amongst some of the bigger more powerful saws. For tight compact work nothing compares. You forget it’s on your harness compared to a 201. Perfect for conifers and hedges. Basically a loud Silky.

Had mine for a year. Can’t see me buying anything else tbh but like everything it’s not 100% perfect. I got a second one from a lad on gumtree who was getting out the game. Bought a plastic visor for that one instead of the metal mesh one that comes standard which was a game changer. When not in use it keeps the rain off your face and when in use sawdust in the eyes because a distant memory. Use the mesh one when climbing and the plastic when on the deck and there’s a lot of sawdust about. Never had an issue with the ear muffs falling out or snapping open so not sure about that. Maybe not fitted properly. only negatives are the price, they are slightly heavy and they get smelly pretty quick even when you wash the pads.

What I don’t understand is how they decide when to stop because it seems to be devoid of all logic. I think they set a timer and when it beeps that’s it. Job done. The only explanation for it.

Pulled up at a job today and discovered these street trees that had been illegally “pruned”. The notice pinned to it was from the council who were basically looking to press charges of criminal damage and criminal trespass to the people responsible. After chatting to the customer it turns out that a neighbour had paid some lads in an unmarked transit van £300 to do one of the trees and I believe the neighbour had done the other. Either way it’s an absolute shitshow on all fronts.

I was expecting the same response I had when I see it which was “how the ****************s he managed that”. For the record before any more Arb Police rock up. We had another 3 lines in the tree. And another 2 qualified climbers on the deck with their own gear on top of the above. And to clarify further he’s not still up there.

Had a belter from earlier this week. Climber was at the top of a huge Beech and was lowering some pole pruners off his climbing line. Somehow he managed to tie the end of his line just above his stopper knot onto the phone cable. Which meant he couldn’t come down to untangle it and we couldn’t reach it to untie it. Quite the predicament 🤣 That was on Wednesday. By all accounts he’s still up there.

Most of the arb coats don’t rate their waterproofness on the standard scale. But if you’re buying some of the mainstream brands steer clear of anything less than 10,000mm waterproof rating. You will be amazed how many of the £400+ NorthFace/Berghaus type jackets say waterproof but are rated 3,000mm which is basically someone sneezing near you. I’ve got an Arbortec Breathflex Smock. Lasted about 8 months in Manchester rain before it started losing its waterproof-ness. That being said it’s very durable and hard wearing and can withstand a lot of abuse. I now have a Dare2Be jacket from GoOutdoors. Rated 20,000mm and was £50. More like a cycling jacket so very lightweight and breathable. I wear this when climbing if it’s pissing down and save the Arbotec for days when I’m on the deck and it’s more likely to get abuse from brash etc.
